The latest issue of Sole Collector is probably one of the top five issues of all time. What makes it so special? A few things. First off the cover you are looking at is one of the best covers we have done to date. Easily in the top 5. But a cover is a cover - what is inside? This issue has 68 pages of Kobe IV content from the designers of the Zoom Kobe IV to designers of past Kobe kicks (yes, including an interview with Tinker Hatfield, who was the OG Huarache designer). But the content doesn’t stop there…. one of the most unique features we have ever put together is in this issue and it is called the Industry Insider. We interviewed 16 people in the industry who have amazing jobs and followed them through their childhood to what they are doing today. One guy that I have known for years told us a GREAT story - he started off in the mailroom at Reebok and moved all the way up to a position that allowed him to sign Iverson / Jay-Z / 50 and many others. And you might be surprised at what paths you can take to become a designer… it probably isn’t what you imagined. Bottom line - these interviews show you a clear path to getting a job in the sneaker industry - and there is a common thread throughout… Lastly, we have an Under Armour feature looking at their first steps into the runner category of the sneaker industry. It is real interesting to see how they are doing it, and there’s surely a lot of great info on a start-up sneaker company.

This was the issue that changed Sole Collector forever. This is the first Jordan issue that we created - that’s right - an issue 100% dedicated to Jordan shoes. And how can you possibly create an issue and do this brand justice? We’ll here is what we did - we dove deep into the latest rendition of the Jordan Brand kicks -the Jordan XX. We had a roundtable with Tinker Hatfield, Mark Smith, Tom Foxen, Josh Herd, and Gentry Humpry to kick things off. And then we took pictures of every single Jordan shoe that we could get our hands on - that’s right - 100s of Jordans…. and some I guarantee you have never seen before. Spike Lee joined us for two features and talked about back in the day with our man AG. That much info in itself would be enough for a great issue - but we didn’t stop there - Professor K reviewed every single model of the Jordan line - that’s right - 20 detailed reviews - and Retrokid gave us details on each of these shoes with info most people never knew. And to top the issue off we found a collector into each and every model created and let them tell you their story….. Ahhhh- issue 7 - coming of age for Sole Collector.

The Start of it ALL:
Well we did it. We said we were going to make a magazine and within three months from the idea we had our first issue in hand. The first issue was created by Steve Mullholand, Nicole Fesette, and Retrokid - and none of them knew how to create a magazine - ! With a lot of hard work, long hours, and cases of Mountain Dew they were able to finish off their first issue. The verdict? Beautiful photography and unique stories which hit the heart of the sneaker industry. We had a winner and dove into issue 2 within hours.
